Leapfrog and Leapfrog too! information

Leapfrog is a specialist nursery provision, for children aged 3-4 years which is based within Netherton Park Nursery School.  Leapfrog provides education and care for children with complex communication needs.  Leapfrog is part of and staffed by Dudley Integrated Early Years Service (IEYS) and a Service Level Agreement is in place to cover this provision between Netherton Park Nursery School and the Local Authority.  Places are allocated to children who are identified as appropriate for a Health and Care Needs Assessment and are reserved for children identified by IEYS and as agreed at panel.

This specialist nursery provision offers a morning and an afternoon group, each consisting of up to 36 children. Children attend Tuesday - Friday 8.40am - 11.40 am or 12.30pm - 3.30pm.

Leapfrog offers 8 places within each session and is integrated within the mainstream nursery provision.

Leapfrog too! offers 10 places within each session and is a specialist unit based in a building alongside the main Nursery School building.

The provision is led by a Specialist Teacher in Charge in conjunction with the Headteacher.  All staff working within Leapfrog are specificallly trained to support children with a compex level of need.

Leapfrog and Leappfrog too! deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, adapted and differentiated, to meet the individual needs of the children.  The children take part in small group sessions at the beginning, middle, and end of each session.  Regular, targeted, individual work also takes place daily.  The emphasis is on providing a rich and stimulating range of experiences and activities, designed to encourage and facilitate communication, social interaction and co-operation.

We work closely with parents and review the children’s development and progress on a regular basis, alongside other professionals who may be working with them such as speech and language therapists.  We discuss and agree targets and plans going forward; this includes looking ahead to full-time school and planning and assessment for an Education and Health Care Plan where needed.

We hold regular stay and play sessions for parents and carers; these enable parents to meet other parents of children with additional needs, and spend time in nursery watching how staff communicate, interact with and support the children.

What some of our parents have said about Leapfrog….

"Going to Leapfrog is the best thing that could have happened to my child. Since starting Leapfrog he is saying lots of words and putting 4 word sentences together – and I thought he would never talk. He has more eye contact, socialises better and is well behaved.  I cannot praise Leapfrog and the wonderful staff enough.  They have been fantastic and supported us through our journey there. We feel ready now for our next adventure!"

"Having my child at Leapfrog was the best decision I could have made for him.  My child has progressed so well. Leapfrog staff have done wonders with him.  I do owe all of them a lot and I’m quite upset now to see him leave."

"Both of my sons went to the Leapfrog group and they both loved it there and it helped them a lot.  Also the staff are always there for help and advice so you don’t feel you’re on your own.  The stay and play sessions are very helpful to talk to other parents.  And I will miss the letters telling me about what is happening. I will be sad to see my son leave."

'My son attending Leapfrog has been a life-changing experience compared to his previous nursery. The team are very supportive, I have seen lots of improvement in my son’s verbal communication, he’s much happier and he plays with his peers which makes me also happy, seeing his improvement as he grows. Leapfrog was and is the best choice for us.'
